Angel Ornament

By far my favorite ornament.

Cutting out the pattern with the Exacto blade.

Tracing to the repurposed Poplar.

Cutting on the Scroll Saw. My fingers on my right hand were injured in a Table Saw Accident, so you will notice the odd angles of my finger in several pictures on this blog.

Each individual cut is made very carefully. I am cutting out the inside of the wings first because if I cut the outline first and then cut the tiny inside pieces, the chances of the wood chattering on the scroll saw is pretty good and I'd most likely break one of the hands off.

More Ornaments!

Repurposing my brother's poplar house trim is an excellent idea. Best one I've had in a while. It's been great to get out in the garage and finish these small projects. Each one takes about an hour to make. Trying to decide if I should leave them bare or paint them. Your thoughts?

Snowflake Ornament

From repurposed Poplar trim my brother left laying in my Dad's garage 10 years ago....

To the drawing of the design...

To jigsaw....

To scroll saw...

To tree in one evening.

Bell Ornament

My butt warmer. Ohio weather means degrees in the mid-thirties to the single digits. Heating the garage is quick with this gadget for the few hours I spend out there each evening.

My turning chisels are Craftsman. As a Sears employee for over 10 years, Craftsman pretty much fills my garage.

The finished bell hanging on our Christmas tree. Beautiful maple, unfinished, it still shines, giving this ornament a warmth and depth. Like the dingaling?

Bells

Starting with a 2.5" square block of wood on the lathe, I started by rounding out the block. In the picture above I'm chiseling out the top and bottom part of the bell.
Rounding out the top of the bell.

Hollowing out the bottom of the bell.
Final picture to come later.

Hello! And Welcome!

Welcome to my blog. My name is Jon and this blog is about my woodworking. I've been doing woodworking since my first shop class in 7th grade. Now with a garage full of tools and a barn full of wood, I have carved out time this next year to focus on my woodworking.
Hope you enjoy the blog! Look forward to hearing from you!
